(Reuters) – Ed Sheeran, his document label Warner Music and music writer Sony (NYSE:) Music Publishing persuaded a U.S. appeals court docket on Friday to uphold a choice that his hit “Thinking Out Loud” didn’t illegally copy from Marvin Gaye’s “Let’s Get It On.”
The 2nd U.S. Circuit Courtroom of Appeals agreed with a choice by a federal decide in Manhattan to dismiss the lawsuit from Structured Asset Gross sales, which owns rights to Gaye’s track which beforehand belonged to “Let’s Get It On” co-writer Ed Townsend.
Sheeran beforehand defeated a separate copyright lawsuit from Townsend’s heirs in a carefully watched trial.
